When must teams present themselves to the race?
Teams must be present for the Teams Registration on February 17th in a place yet to be announced in Quito to sign their designated documents, and fulfill an equipment revision, a list will be published on the web.
It is recommended that international teams arrive 4 days to a week prior to this to acclimatize to the altitude of the Andes in Quito.

 

Will acclimatization be needed before the race?
Yes, we recommend that all international team, especially those that live at sea level, spend some time and exercise in Quito, 2.800 meters form sea level (9.186 ft) before the race. If interested, the organization can arrange different acclimatization plans including mountain climbing, hiking, MTB and more.

 

How many camps will there be during the race?
The race is non-stop. However, there will be general camps for the Adventure caterory along the route due to logistic and safety reasons. The nights of Feruary 18, 19 and 20 will have their camps on route. This camps will be TA´s for Elite category teams.

 

Will teams meet their support crews along the route?
Yes, in some occasions in the TA’s (Transition Areas) teams will meet their support crews for gear and provisions. Not all TA´s will be supported.

 

What scale will the maps be?
Maps delivered to the teams in the Race Briefing on the afternoon of February 17th will be in a 1:50.000 scale, colored, and will be necessary for the entire route. Any other map not provided by the organization is forbidden.

 

Can a GPS be used during the race?
No, GPS use is forbidden. The organization requires teams to have one GPS for safety reasons. This GPS device will be sealed in the Team Registration by the organization.

 

Will teams have an emergency communications device?
Each team will be provided with a VHF Radio, sealed by the organization, to be used just in case of an emergency. The VHF Radio fee is included in the Entry fee.

 

Will there be a ropes section in the race?
Yes, one or more ropes sections will be present in the race. For this section mandatory gear is needed and a specific list can be found under the Mandatory Gear menu.

 

Will teams have their own kayak?
Each team will be provided with two twin sit-on-top kayaks and aluminum paddles for the water sections of the race. Personal paddles and seats will be allowed.

 

The Race Entry Fee provides three nights of accommodation in Quito, when can these nights be used?
It is each team’s disposition to use their three nights of accommodation in Quito on the dates of their convenience. The organization recommends that teams use the nights before the race to aid to the Team’s acclimation process in Quito. Teams must notify the organization of their itinerary with at least one month in advance. If an itinerary is not provided, the organization will assign two nights prior to the race and one night after.
