What is Huairasinchi
• Huairasinchi’s adventure race appeared in the year 2003, as an initiative of a group of young people who were looking for a new way of getting to know their country.
• Huairasinchi, a kichwa word when translated to English means “the strength of the wind”, is more than an adventure race. It is a life style that allows you to reach unimaginable goals and exceed your limits, both physical and mental.
• Huairasinchi is an adventure race that discovers hidden places in Ecuador every year. Places that are extremely rich, not only for their nature but also because of their people and history. This race promotes the protection and respect for nature and has a "leave no trace” policy during the race, along with a conservation message.
• This adventure race includes several disciplines such as: mountain biking, trekking, paddling, fixed ropes and orienteering; in 4 people coed teams, as well as two only men categories.
• Besides being an adventure race Huairasinchi:
o Promotes Ecuador’s beauty’s through sport events.
o Promotes a healthy life-style.
o Promotes an environmental conscience, conservation and respect for nature.
Healthy life-style
To participate in an adventure race it is a key requisite to have personal goals regarding training and sacrifice beyond the race itself. Therefore, training for an adventure race demands a change in a person’s life-style focused in sports and effort. Little by little, this change starts to transform the life of each individual since it also requires feeling good about oneself, enjoying life, and establishing goals for living.
Respectfully relating with nature
Proyecto Aventura aspires to discover Ecuador’s true adventure potential. The places where the race takes the competitors are places of an indescribable beauty that can function as potential sustainable tourism adventure places.
Sustainable development
In all of our events we put a lot of emphasis in protecting the beautiful places that host our races and all the competitors. Our interest is to conserve the amazing places that Ecuador has to offer, so that, thanks to their beauty, they can become real income sources for the country’s sustainable development. We wish these places can be kept in their natural state so that future generations can enjoy them, and show the entire world the treasure they hold.
Work with communities
Ecuador’s ethnical and cultural diversity allows us to work with different communities in a variety of regions who maintain very distinct traditions. We work with them so they can become a fundamental part of the races that cross their lands, rewarding them for their generosity towards the racers who, thanks to them are able to enjoy the treasure that they hold. We have worked with the people in Loreto del Pedregal, Cotopaxi by creating a library for the community who so generously received the general camp in their lands. In San Rafael del Lago we built 30 "totora boats” so that the teams could paddle across Lago San Pablo and hence we trained them in a new activity that could represent economic benefits for the community. In el Juncal, we worked with the community to improve their soccer court so that it could serve as the finishing line for the race. In Babahoyo and its surroundings we built 35 "bogas” or wooden boats for the race that we later gave back to the community for their use. In Selva Alegre we provided school materials for the children in the community. At the Antizana highlands we hired the community to work with us in the race’s security team. In addition, all of Huairasinchi’s trophies are made by the people of the community we work with. All efforts are always surpassed by the pleasant experience of meeting these staggering people around Ecuador who are always willing to help and keep their doors open for us.
