Welcome to the 10th edition of Ecuador’s adventure race. This year we have planned and prepared an incredible route that will take you through some of the most beautiful terrains in Ecuador where we are sure no runner has ever been before. We hope that you enjoy this edition and are able to fully experience the marvelous nature that Ecuador provides for us.
Online Team Registration
Every team is responsible of filling completely their information on our online registration system. At the moment, a couple of teams are still incomplete. These teams will not be counted as official race teams until they complete all the forms and other registration steps. The deadline to complete filling in all web details is Friday the 3rd of February at 7 p.m. After this date, all incomplete teams will be erased from the list of official competitors.
The procedure to register a team is the following:
1.- Each team member must separately enter the LOGIN at www.proyectoaventura.com and fill in all their information and details.
2.- The captain of the team must sign up for Huairasinchi and invite the other team members by adding their email addresses.
3.- Each team member will receive an email with the captain’s invitation to the race. Each person must accept the invitation.
4.- You can check to see if your inscription is complete at www.huairasinchi.com under the ‘teams’ section.
Signature of the risk-acknowledgement form (national teams only)
Once a team is fully signed up and complete, the captain must download and print the risk-acknowledgement form. This can be found in a section called “my races” that will appear once sign up is complete. We ask that you print on recycled paper and/or use both sides of the page.
All members must sign this form and turn it in after the 1st of February in the EXPLORER stores in el Quicentro and El Jardin malls. Risk-acknowledgement forms will be accepted until the 15th of February at closing times in both stores. Teams that do not turn in the forms at the EXPLORER stores until this date will receive their race maps two hours after the rest of the teams.
Route Details
Huarasinchi 2012’s route will be approximately 400 kilometres long. As in previous races, there will be a variety of altitudes, considering Ecuador’s geography, very few areas are actually flat.
Approximate distances for the Elite category
Mountain biking - 240 kilometres
Trekking – 130 kilometres
Kayak – 30 kilometres
(The adventure categories will have a balanced route of both mountain biking and trekking with stages of approximately 60 kilometres a day. 1 of the days will include kayaks.)
Altitude
The altitude during the race is considerable and this is a factor that must be taken into consideration. There will be mountain legs with an approximate altitude of 5000 metres above sea level. Elite teams will spend around 20 hours between 2500 and 4000 metres above sea level. The race will also have stages in low zones – under 500 metres above sea level.
Climate
The climate during the race may be very varied and unpredictable but in the stages of the race located at high altitudes it is a must to have clothes adequate for the cold, rain and winds. The use of ice axes and crampons are not necessary in the high mountain stages. In the lower zones, the climate can be very humid and cold during the night.
The race will start on Saturday the 18th of February at 6:30 am and the elite route will be open until noon of Tuesday the 21st of February. During the race there will be a series of ‘closed doors’ that will be explained during the race briefing on the 17th of February.
Registration and Prerace Briefing
Registration will be on Friday 17th of February in the Convention Centre Eugenio Espejo. After the 3rd of February we will assign specific registration times for each team. The team must be complete and have with them all the mandatory gear with the exception of the bicycles. A detailed revision will be carried out, cell phones and GPS will be sealed and first aid certificates looked over. Registration will be from 7 am to 1 pm.
Support team Risk-acknowledgement forms and vehicle details
All the support teams must be present with their team during registration on the 17th of February to sign their own risk-acknowledgement form and to fill in their vehicle details. Without these documents teams will not receive their maps.
Delivery of maps and route details
Route details will be given to all the teams after 3:30 pm on Friday the 17th of February in the same place that registration will be held. Maps will be given out once the race briefing is over.
Race Briefing
This will be held on the same Friday 17th of February at the Convention Centre Eugenio Espejo at 4:00 pm with an approximate duration of 2 and a half hours.
Prize giving and after-race celebration
The Prize giving ceremony of HUAIRASINCHI Chevrolet 2012 will be held on Wednesday 22nd of February in the Metropolitan Cultural Centre in the Plaza Grande in Quito at 7 pm. During registration all members involved will receive tickets that must be presented at the entry of the Metropolitan Cultural Centre.
After the ceremony there will be a party to close the race at La Ronda. The exact location of the party will be revealed in due time.
