GENERAL INFORMATION

Hola The Adventure Racing (AR) World Series unites in competition the world's best endurance athletes at premiere Qualifier events around the globe. Each international Qualifier event in the AR World Series sets a unique course to test mixed teams of four for up to ten days of non-stop racing in the disciplines of trekking, mountain biking, kayaking, navigation and more. Dates: 3 - 11 December, 2020

Location:

  • The exact starting location will be reveled 1 day before the race start; international teams should travel to the Quito International Airport (UIO)

Route and race details:

  • The route will be announced 1 day before the race in the technical briefing.
  • The adventure race will include high altitude sections around 4000 masl as well as parts in lower and warmer climates. All athletes should have solid knowledge of: orienteering and land navigation, trekking, mountain biking, flat water paddling and white water paddling up to class 3 rapids, and fixed ropes courses. Specifically with regards to the ropes sections, all racers should know how to ascend, cross Tyrolean traverses, use vía ferratas, rappel using a figure 8 or an ATC, pulleys, and a basic understanding of climbing knots.
  • We recommend an acclimatization of at least 3 days for people who do not live at altitude. If you need information about tours please contact us for recommendations.
  • See the mandatory race rules and gear lists here. We will use the latest ARWS rules and gear. Huairasinchi also has included additional items including, most importantly:
    • Up-to-date first aid certs for at least 2 members of each team (must be shown in registration)
    • Current medical insurance with coverage in Ecuador for every team member (if you do not have one, you can contract one for the race duration during registration)

  • ARWS Expedition - 4 team members with at least 1 female participant and 2 participants with the same nationality

International Teams

  • Welcome to Huairasinchi and Ecuador! We are here to help you so if you need any extra information please feel free to contact us at info@proyectoaventura.com. We speak Spanish, English, and French.
  • We recommend an acclimatization of at least 3 days for people who do not live at altitude. If you need information about tours please contact us for recommendations. We can recommend guided tours with adventure racers who have raced Huairasinchi before to have a catered experience in your race preparation.
  • International teams will receive 3 nights of hotel accomdations included in their registration fee. These will be only for the nights of December 4, 5 and 10.
  • Transfer from Tumbaco (Office Project Adventure) on December 4 to the official hotel of the race, and on December 11 to Tumbaco (Office Project Adventure). Transfers from the airport to Quito are not included.
  • We recommend buying the arrival tickets for December 3 and return for December 12.
